mStar is now commercially available from Marratech AB by the name of Marratech Pro



The mStar environment consists of a number of tool to acomplish functions such as desktop video and audio, shared whiteboard, distributed presentations, chat, voting.

mStar is compatible with many public domain tools, e.g., vic (video) and vat (audio), the since long well tested members of IP multicasting family.

    Session information. mSD is a web based session directory that shows current sessions. It could be used to launch any of the sessions. mSD is compatible with sdr.

    Audio. mAudio provides the audio. Intelligent treatment of packet losses improves perceived quality. vat compatible. To support layered encoding and semi-reliable multicasting. mAudio is vat compatible.

    Video. Integrates the public domain and well tested "vic" application.

    Whiteboard. mWB is a shared whiteboard with drawing and document presentation, telepointers, mini-views, layers, etc.

    Chat. mChat enables the user to talk to other members via keyboard.

    Distributed presentations. Using Web based presentations, mWeb provides synchronization of web-browsers in a multicast sessions.

    Voting. mVote , allows a user to define questions and voting alternatives for on-line voting with immediate graphic visualization.

    Floor control and attention making. The mWave tool presents and administers a list of people who want attention, ("waving their hands").

    Application Sharing. mShare - integration of the JointX application sharing system

    Integrated desktop. mDesk is packaging of the tools providing for common look and feel and smooth integration.

    Recording and Media-on-Demand. mMOD records and plays back all traffic on specified multicast channels, (that is, not only audio and video, but all data tools used).

    Session editing. The mEdit application allows for indexing, editing, and annotation of recorded sessions.

    Network adaptions. mTunnel, transfers multicast traffic over unicast "links", with format conversion, media scaling, and mixing. Example usage is ISDN or modem links.

    Presentation authoring. SlideBurster, makes it easy to produce material for distributed presentations.

    Camera control. mDirector is a software package for "point-in-picture" based remote control of video cameras and switches.

    Application launcher. mLaunch launches tools from a web page.

    Extensive class libraries. Java Class libraries provides framework for fast tool construction, /TMP.
All CDT mStar software is implemented in Java.
